Education and conservation are the pillars of the fourth edition of Jornada Sustentável Beach Park, taking place between November 4 and 8. The event brings together a series of activities focused on sustainability, such as lectures, debates, educational activities and visits to conservation areas in Aquiraz and Crateús, in Ceará. In addition, the program encourages the engagement of partners, authorities and environmental experts.
At the opening, guests got to know Parque Arvorar, Beach Park's new educational and conservation space. The team presented the Refauna Arvorar project, developed in partnership with the Caatinga Association and Aquasis. In this way, the park works to reintroduce endangered birds, such as the Jandaia-verdadeira and the Cara-Suja Parakeet. This reinforces the importance of local actions in tackling the biodiversity crisis.
On Tuesday (5), the Espaço Azul do Mar hosted a series of panels on the theme "Rehabilitate, Reflood and Conserve". Experts such as Camila Martins, Romana Aguiar, Neiva Guedes and Marcelo Rheingantz shared innovative practices. In addition, they presented impact projects that connect education and conservation in different regional contexts. For this reason, the event also served as a showcase for new inter-institutional partnerships.
During the morning, the organizers launched the Arvorar Call for Proposals, aimed at funding environmental projects in Ceará. The amounts range from R$20,000 to R$100,000 per proposal. With this initiative, Beach Park is increasing its direct impact on strengthening the protection of Ceará's fauna. The projects supported will also be able to count on technical and educational support from partner institutions.
Between the 6th and 8th, the participants went to the Serra das Almas Nature Reserve. The program included hiking trails, birdwatching and discussions about the Refauna Arvorar and the Cara-Suja Parakeet conservation projects. Meanwhile, the NGO partners worked directly to provide technical support for the actions in the field. The Journey thus strengthened the relationship between research and real-life experience.
On the last day, students from public schools in Aquiraz visited the Beach Park Compost Y ard and took part in the Hands on Vegetable Garden project. They learned about organic cultivation, healthy eating and composting. In other words, practices that reinforce the value of education and conservation.
